Runethulhu is a campaign setting that grew out of an idea derived from an 1920's Call of Cthulhu campaign. The original concept was created as a form of dreamlands setting, but, players being players, several turns of events caused it to evolve. The central character, at least for the moment, is a Wind Lord of Orlanth, Captain James Smythe. He was a PC in my Call of Cthulhu Campaign who ended up as a worshipper of Ithaqua, the closest thing to a Storm God. He almost died during a particularly story, and only survived by placing himself in an icy stasis. The other characters made several intuitive leaps and managed to inject him into Glorantha where the Pavis Chalanna Array temple resurrected him. Orlanth has recognised Smythe as some form of Storm Cultist and the story has been centred around Smythe's quest to regain his powers.

Since then, however, the setting has evolved into a full blown campaign in its own right, complete with background, characters and weird and wonderful artefacts and settings.

The campaign started in the Pavis/Prax area but the characters eventually made themselves sufficiently unpopular with the Lunar Authorities that they were forced to move north into Dragon Pass. There they have had many adventures before being summoned back to Pavis (they had pro, issed the Giant's a favour...) to defend the Giant's Cradle. Although they mostly survived that encounter, they made many promises which resulted in their healer sailing off with the Cradle into the underworld, and the rest of the party beholden to Magasta. He has called in the debt and the characters have travelled much further in the multiverse than they could possible have imagined.....
