Baron Marcus D'Alembert
Current Guild Leader

Marcus D'Alembert was the third son of a wealthy Poldoon merchant family. Realising that his brothers were far better at the merchant game than he, Marcus elected to travel Bereny looking for a purpose. While he was travelling the high mountains he fell into a crevasse where he lay for many days before a goatherd spotted his broken body. Marcus was taken to a local Monastery and was returned to health by the monks who taught him the basics of their Martial Art as a form of therapy. Intrigued, Marcus stayed even after he was fully recovered and learnt all the monks could teach him. Guild sages have suggested that the Monastery was some form of break away since they taught the skills of Berenian weapons as well as unarmed martial arts.

Returning to Poldoon, Marcus realised that the ways of the Merchant were no longer of any interest and headed into the depths of the Pits of Poldoon from which he has rarely emerged. Along with many other adventurers, Marcus works to keep the Pits as clear as possible of the forces of the Antithetical Church, as well as seeking to unravel the mysteries of the lower levels of the area.

Marcus is also noted for leading the fight against the "Creeping Darkness" which invaded the Pits in force. Not only did he co-ordinate the various warriors that held the line, but he led the battle from the front.

"At one point," remarks his long time adventuring companion Lady Fern Thanatos "he could see over three hundred of the creatures."

Baron D'Alembert's tenure as Guild Leader has been referred to by his opponents as "liberal" and "far too open". He has taken the view that an individual is responsible for their own actions, and that actions speak louder than words. His time has, however, also seen the recovery of half the Walkers Annals pages and the recapture of the Shadowrift Citadel, the ancestral home of the Walkers Guild.
